Through our Procedural Patchwork workshop, we are exploring how guilds serve the need for social interactivity and learning for older adults. We theorize that guilds are indispensable environments with which to learn how older women will feel welcomed in a STEM workplace, inform new technological designs, and potentially change how we educate all people. Through this effort, we will increase the complexity of our marketplace. Through complexity, we avoid stagnation and increase our cultural value around the globe. And by understanding how adults use play, social activity, and informal learning while incorporating computers in their craft practice, researchers, technologists, and policy makers can use that knowledge to innovate, design human centric technology and enhance the ability of all humans to do more than recover. We can flourish.
